Photos at Midnight
Empty streets, lit windows, and the colors a city only makes once everyone has gone in.
Nothing out here is posing. It is just still switched on.
I started shooting at night because it was the only time I had. Then I stayed, because everything I actually wanted to photograph turns out to be lit and empty at the same time — a gas station with nobody under it, a shop still saying Welcome at one in the morning, a room somebody left a light on in.
Almost every frame on this site was made between midnight and two, on a 35mm lens, standing in a parking lot. No composites, no borrowed skies. The color is the color the lights were.
Everything is still open and nobody is here
